Potomac Surgical Specialists

Who are we?
Doctors Collins and Weinberg are full time practicing General Surgeons. This means that we are trained and experienced in the surgical treatment of many disease processes involving the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, small bowel, colon and rectum), liver and gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and abdominal wall, skin and breasts, lymph nodes, and some glands like the thyroid.

What types of surgery do the doctors perform?
We take care of problems you may be familiar with such as breast, colon, and rectal cancers, diverticulitis, gallstones, hemorrhoids, hernias, appendicitis and skin cancers to name a few. We also provide colonoscopy and upper endoscopy and have expertise in trauma management and surgical critical care.

What other procedures do the doctors perform?
We perform hundreds of operative interventions. If you have a specific one in mind call our office and ask. If we don’t provide what you are looking for we probably know someone who does.

Where do the surgeons work?
We see patients in our office at Robinwood Medical Center but perform all of or our surgery in Washington County Hospital, Waynesboro Hospital, Cumberland Valley Surgery Center and Robinwood Surgery Center.

Who provides my care after surgery?
Some patients are admitted after surgery where we can supervise their recovery. Other patients are discharged the same day for follow-up in the office. Doctors Collins or Weinberg will generally attend their own patients but on weekends, holidays, and night time they efficiently cross cover each other so that you are never without access to care.

How do I become a patient?
Generally just call and ask for an appointment; chances are you will not have to wait more than a couple of weeks to be seen. If you have an urgent need we will do our best to see you sooner. Be aware that some insurance companies require authorization or a referral from your primary care doctor. If your doctor wants to refer you to a surgeon ask specifically for us. We have good working relationships with most of the doctors in the community and we always keep your doctor in the loop with letters and phone calls as needed.

What if I have an emergency?
We operate on many patients who present through the Emergency Department or have an urgent medical issue that needs rapid attention. Even if we are not “On Call” for a particular day at the Washington County Hospital or the Waynesboro Hospital our patients, or anyone interested in being our patient, can always request that we be consulted. You certainly do not have to accept just any “surgeon on call” if you require an urgent intervention and want to be assured of receiving care through our group.

Isn’t surgery expensive?
Your costs will depend on the nature and extent of surgery required. The facility will have a charge for use of the operating or procedure room. If anesthesia is necessary you will get a bill from the anesthesiologist who provides this service. Pathology reports for interpreting your biopsy will result in fees from the pathologist. You may be surprised to find that quite often our fee for actually performing the operation is the lowest of your charges.

What if I am having problems?
We can always be reached through our pagers regardless or when you may need us. Fortunately complications are rare but if or when they occur, you will find we stand behind our work and remain accessible to you until “things are right”. We don’t become difficult to reach or unavailable when you need us most.

How do I pay for surgery if I don’t have any insurance or I have an insurance you don’t participate with?
We participate in many but not all insurance plans. We provide financing for those patients without insurance or those who have plans with limited out of network benefits. We use Care Credit to give you long term financing options with small monthly payments or ask about our in-house financing for short term options.

Why should I trust my care to Doctors Collins and Weinberg?
We pride ourselves in delivering top quality surgical care, focusing on your individual problems, and answering all of your questions. Our staff is trained to respect your privacy and to promptly assist you with any problems you may be having. We explain medical matters in every day language without talking down to you. We take time to make sure you understand what we are doing (and why) and to present your options without making things needlessly difficult. We are always available to you and your care is our priority.
